Seeking Ecological Citizenship - a multi-media exhibition
23rd June – 18th July 2026 @The Millhouse Gallery, Ilminster
Our latest exhibition at The Millhouse is a space for reflection on what it means to be an ecological citizen and how this can be expressed, celebrated and shared with others as a call to action to support the natural systems upon which we all depend.
We explore environmental stewardship, connection to landscape, place and heritage and consider the vital role of the arts in reflecting a deeper commitment to the natural world.
The exhibition blends photography, artwork, talks and creative workshops on the following topics (see links to book your spot at our exhibition talks and workshops - more will be added over the next week or so):
1. Creativity and the arts - how artistic expression acts as a catalyst for ecological citizenship.
2. Environmental Stewardship and Ecosystem Health - the relationship between citizens and natural landscapes and ecologies.
3. Local Economy - our role in building inclusive and sustainable supply chains and the role of the Millhouse and Rose Mills in the Environmental Employment Area in Ilminster’s Neighbourhood Plan to support sustainable business in practice.
4. Sustainable Design and Heritage - how Ilminster’s historical identity relates to modern sustainable living. How we can connect to our past through the “ecology of design,” and why natural materials and buildings like the Millhouse matter.
5. Digital Empowerment and the “Analogue” Balance - navigating the tensions and opportunities presented by the digital age, particularly for parenting and community connectivity.
6. Ecological Citizenship and Well-being - experiencing ecological citizenship and what that feels like.
Open Tuesday 10 - 3 pm Tuesday - Friday and 10 am - 2:30 pm on Saturdays.
